About us
Organisation
genanet was founded as a project of the registered association LIFE – Education, Environment, Equality e.V.
Since the beginning of 2015, genanet is no longer part of LIFE e.V., but continues the networking and dissemination of information under the umbrella of GenderCC - Women for Climate Justice. In this way, we would like to return more strongly to the original idea of genanet: To provide information and structures for networking and to stimulate expert groups in order to jointly generate expertise and exert influence.
In addition, we are involved in research projects that are carried out under the umbrella of GenderCC.
History: Women's Environmental Network
The origins of genanet date back to 1994, when the Women’s Environmental Network was established as a branch of LIFE in Frankfurt/Main. This network was working on combining women’s issues and environmental issues. Over time and in the course of various activities on the local Agenda 21 though, the work focus shifted, thus women's issues developed into gender issues / gender justice and the topic environment emerged into sustainability containing a wider range of aspects. Also our scope changed: from networking to carrying out scientific studies on gender aspects in environmental and sustainability politics as well as to supporting the integration of gender mainstreaming in these policy fields, organizing conferences to raise awareness and to providing background information.
Consequently, in 2002 the Women’s Environmental Network evolved into genanet – Focal Point Gender, Environment, Sustainability. Since summer 2006 genanet is located in Berlin.
You can read about some highlights of our work in the flyer for our 20th anniversary or in the brochure “männlich, weiblich, nachhaltig” (both only available in German).
