The women's organisations organised in the Women and Gender Constituency have expressed their deep disappointment and frustration on the results of the UN Climate Conference (COP 20) in Lima.
Even though the "Lima Work Programme on Gender" was passed, which aims at strengthening and enhancing the implementation of gender-sensitive climate policies, the term "gender equality" which was originally included in the draft decision fell victim to the haggle of the governments and was finally replaced by the term "gender balance". The same had already happenend before at the COP in Doha in 2012.
But even if the term gender equality had been included in the text, the statement which is being annually repeated since the failed climate conference in Copenhagen remains unchanged: Also the best agreements on gender are useless, if the negotiations on climate change mitigation and on finance of adaptation measures fail.
